During Fun Friday the students in Life Skills were introduced a recipe and reviewed the directions. Together we prepared the ingredients and made Mac N Cheese in a mug in a microwave. The students were taught the life skill of cooking and following a recipe where they can do this in their own home.

On February 28, twenty-five 7th graders travelled just across the neighborhood to visit Baystate Hospital. Led by Ms. Eisermann (7th grade science) and Dr. Eichenlaub (7th grade ELA), the students met with Baystate neurologist Dr. William House, pathologist Dr. Chibuike Enwereuzo, and Baystate Springfield Educational Partnership director, Peter Blain.

Our first round of Student Led Family Conferences was held on December 5th. We were so proud to host over 70 families who attended with their scholars. Pictures show some great examples of conferences in action. We are excited for round two on the 19th!

The week after November break the eighth grade embarked on a trip to Historic Deerfield to complete field work for their Social Studies and ELA classes. While at Deerfield, scholars had the opportunity to experience first hand what some aspects of daily life were like for Americans in the 17th and 18th centuries. On November 3rd, Ms. Bowker and all of the Chestnut TAG Band Students traveled to Westfield State University to see the musical “Snoopy,” performed by the Westfield State Musical Theatre Workshop. After seeing the musical, the students traveled across campus to tour the new Catherine Dower Fine and Performing Arts Center. The band was able to see their rehearsal facilities, practice rooms, and the new Steinway pianos.

Family Paint Night took place tonight at the Chestnut Talented and Gifted school cafeteria and the outcome was spectacular! Students and their families gathered around to enjoy complimentary snacks and refreshments while also painting the night away.
